Pets and Vets Unit Study Series
This Pets and Vets Unit Study Series is designed for homeschooling families learning together about dogs, cats, small and exotic pets, farm animals, and veterinary work, and has lessons for learners of all ages and abilities.
Discover the wonders of the many varied animals in our lives with this biology and literature-based unit study for homeschooling families.
This Pets and Vets Unit Study Series was created by combining Charlotte Mason style language arts with full STEAM sciences and arts along with history, sensory activities, and family fun extras, you get a well-rounded and hands-on education. You and your kids will learn:
- Design an obstacle course or habitat for a small pet
- Learn what jobs each farm animal has
- Find out the different names for male and female farm animals
- Discover the many different breeds of cats and dogs
- Create a flyer & “elevator speech” for a pet-sitting business
- Explore the pros and cons of raising pigs or chickens as a small business
- Discover a Ukrainian folktale about a dog and an Aesop’s fable about a cat
- Research heritage vs. hybrid breeds
- Discover the difference between cold- and warm-blooded animals (and endothermic & ectothermic)
- Find out which of Newton’s Laws of Physics cats seem to break when they land on their feet
- and many more exciting, hands-on activities!

Whether you have one child or eight, you’ll love these adaptable lessons for all ages and abilities. This Pets and Vets Unit Study series has family-style lessons in 4 main levels of difficulty to help you meet your child at the level they are currently working, instead of some arbitrary grade level.
In general, the 4 levels are split into these corresponding categories:
- Early Learners: Preschool
- Early Elementary: Kindergarten up to 2nd grade
- Upper Elementary: 3rd to 5th grades
- Middle & High School: 6th to 12 grades
Feel free to mix and match with the lessons and activities for the three different levels to find activities that best suit your children and their individual learning styles.
I recommend selecting the individual activities that will slightly challenge your child so that they can grow in their abilities and skills.
